We will be in the Exuma Land and Sea Park for awhile and won’t have any way to get online so I am writing these blogs and will upload them when we can get online again.
On our way to Cambridge Cay, we stopped for a short time at the Bubble Bath again. We didn’t have to GoPro camera with us yesterday and we wanted video of the waves crashing over us. When we arrived a group of six women were getting out of a dinghy. They were from Oklahoma and were chartering a sailboat to celebrate one of the women’s birthdays. What a great vacation for a group of friends to take! They visited the bubble bath with us. It was as much fun as yesterday with waves crashing over us. I’ll upload a video to YouTube later.
After this short visit, we went on to Cambridge Cay. We were now in the Exuma Land and Sea Park, where you can’t remove anything from the water or beaches. We stayed here two nights on a mooring ball. We didn’t get to snorkel in our favorite coral near conch cut and Rocky Dundas because it was too windy. We did get to hike, swim, walk on beaches and we also took a dinghy ride to see some of the nearby cays. Several of the neighboring cays are privately owned but we did stop at Big Hall’s Pond and found a very nice swimming beach.
We passed Johnny Depp’s private cay, Little Hall’s Pond . We suspected that he was on the island because his 156 ft yacht Vajolrioha (pictured above) was on a mooring ball off his beach. The name is a combination of his name, his wife’s name and their children’s names and when you slur the name it sounds like The Jolly Roger. Although he does charter it out, we doubt that a charter would also get to stay at his private island. The yacht was designed to look like a classic vessel but was built in early 2000 and refurbished in 2008. As of February 2013, it is “discreetly for sale.”
We took a path from a beach near the mooring field over to the Sound side of Cambridge Cay. The path was sandy and wide so the short walk to the beach was easy. It was a rocky beach but still a very nice walk.
The more challenging hike was to Bell Rock. The views are dramatic and the paths are steep. However, as usual there are also sandy beaches on the Sound side and in this case someone had hung several hammocks to rest on while enjoying the view.
We didn’t get to snorkel here, so might try to return when the weather calms down. For now, we were headed on to Shroud Cay, still in the park.
