Eleuthera is underdeveloped and it does not get near the tourist and cruiser traffic as The Exumas or Abaco. Right now there are only two marinas in Eleuthera, one at the far southern end and Spanish Wells at the northern end. While we prefer to anchor out, many cruisers like to stay at marinas and ignore the areas where there aren’t these facilities.
This afternoon we went ashore and walked to the Atlantic side of the island. We took Daisy with us and as soon as we got the dinghy ashore at the resort beach two potcakes (Bahamian dogs) came running up to her. This is very unusual as all potcakes we’ve encountered avoid Daisy.
We walked down the road, leaving Governor behind, into the US Navy base to another pink beach. This one wasn’t as wide as the Club Med one in Governor’s Harbour, and also not as dramatic as there weren’t palm trees on the bluff above the beach. Daisy usually doesn’t come to the beach with us, and luckily we remembered to bring her water with us. In the photo, Daisy is drinking out of her bottle.
We walked on the beach for awhile, and while it was beautiful, we didn’t stay very long. As we were going back, the manager of the resort came with a young couple who were staying there.
This evening we had dinner with Bill and JoAnne on Ultra and the couple we met today. We’ll be leaving Ultra tomorrow after traveling with them since early January. We are going on to Spanish Wells and will be staying there for awhile while they are going further north to Abaco.
