Some cruisers obviously have too much time on their hands. This is the second “Yacht Club” we have seen built from things washed up on the beach. We haven’t seen any purposely dumped garbage yet, although we hear that happens as it costs up to $5 a bag to get rid of trash, but we have seen some items from boats which have either gone over the side (we’ve done some of that by accident ourselves) or perhaps wrecks have broken up on the beach.
We had a great time walking on the beaches here. They varied from sandy to rocky with large waves crashing over the tops. We found quite a few whelk which which apparently are similar to snails. They are edible, although we haven’t tried them yet. Actually, the conch we are eating are very similar to snails, although very delicious.
We continue to get a lot of exercise, walking on the beaches and snorkeling. When we get to Staniel Cay tomorrow, which has stores, we will look at the dive shop for wetsuits, but actually it’s very warm in the water with a swim suit, shorts and top. In the photo at the right, I am holding up a live starfish we found. After the “Kodak Moment,” we returned it to the bottom. I am actually wearing a yoga top and shorts over a swimsuit, which seems to work for me.
Below are photos of Thomas Cay. The rock is limestone and coral. We are limited on the amount of files we can upload to the wifi connections we have. We pay $25 for three days and are only allowed 750 MB. For more photos, click here.
