We were prepared to leave at dusk. A dolphin had come by to greet us. Mark had walked Daisy, we’d eaten dinner, the wind was picking up and it was time to go. We turned everything on, raised the anchor, and oops.......no GPS. Worked fine yesterday. Today, nothing. Since we weren’t about to leave without the GPS working, Mark started checking out everything he could think of doing. We put in a request on our online owner’s forum, and got back some suggestions. Nothing helped. Then we called our tech guy, Scott, who works for The Catamaran Company, the dealer who sold us Seas the Day. On his own time this evening, Scott has been trying to work through some possible fixes with us but so far we can’t find the problem.
It’s now dark and we’re here for at least another day, maybe more if we have to wait for a new unit to be sent to us.
This trip has been a series of problems. First, we lost time because the props were encrusted with barnacles when we left Charleston. We had that fixed in Hilton Head. Next, the jib caught on the mast and got a huge rip. We ended up having to buy a new sail. Not such a big problem, but ordinarily, we could have at least watched TV while waiting. Unfortunately our digital converter box stopped working when we left Charleston. Now the GPS problem.
For the time being, we will be anchored here in New Smyrna Beach until we get this latest problem solved.
